Water for life
The potable water cistern, the temporary storage or the "aljibe" are locations where potable water often gets contaminated. Most of the mistakes are done here. A lot of house owners collect rain water from roofs or eaves gutter and mix it with the potable water from the waterworks. The water gets contaminated if, e.g. a dead bird floats with the water from the roof into the cistern. It gets dangerous if the cistern is not really protected. Small animals, mostly cats, crawl through the spillway into the cistern. In there the animals drown and contaminate the water.Another important point is the surface coating of the potable water cistern. Sometimes they get painted with normal paint. You should never ever use normal paint for a water cistern! All kinds of paints - when being permanent in touch with water - pass poisonous chemicals to the water.
